Northern Sumatra

Kyla and I have been back in Jakarta for just under a week since we got back from Mt. Bromo. We thought one trip wasn't enough, so we bought a plane ticket on monday to Medan in Northern Sumatra. Actually we had been planning to go there for about a month now. This time Miriam is with us. This is the first time that all three of us have gone traveling together. Aside from us all spending one night together in Chiba, Japan. After my last class today, I hopped an Ojek (Motorcycle taxi) to the Soekarno Hatta; Jakartas Airport. We left just after 3:00 and arrived here just after 5:00. Kyla had arranged to meet her friend from one of her schools in Jakarta. She is just visiting her parents for the weekend and aggreed to host us for a night. Save ourselves a couple of bucks. She picked us up from the airport and drove us to the China Town here for dinner. I have a couple of new dishes to add to the list of weird foods. We ordered deep fried frogs (Taists like chicken!) snails, cows tongue, cow intestines, and turtle soup. (Dont tell my turtle in Jakarta)I guess these things are up there with dog and magots. Tomorrow we will be heading west to Bukit Lawang, home to the famous Orang Utans. We will take a bus from Medan to Bekit Lawang taking around 3 hours if we are lucky. We will spend a couple of days there, head south and spend some time in Danau Toba. The largest fresh water lake in Asia; so they say. We will see what adventures will come from this week. Traveling with Miriam this time, I expect for many.
